about tale.fyi

what is tale.fyi?

Tale puts each public-domain book on one long page. It saves your place, and you can share a link to any passage. You can also keep books for offline reading.

is it free?

Yes, reading and listening are free, with no account required. If you sign in, your reading place follows you across devices.

where do the texts and narrations come from?

Texts come from Standard Ebooks, Project Gutenberg and other public-domain collections. Recordings come from LibriVox volunteers.

Source credits appear below each book’s title, with full credits at the end. The books are in the public domain in the United States; copyright may differ where you live.

how does read-along work?

Read-along highlights the words as a recorded narrator speaks them. You’re listening to a person, not a synthetic voice. Look for a play button, or browse the audiobooks shelf.

which languages?

Tale’s interface is in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Italian. The library includes books in other languages too. Changing the interface language doesn’t translate the book.

Browse books by language to find something to read.

is there an app?

Yes, Tale is available for iPhone, iPad and Mac on the App Store. You can also read and listen on the web without installing anything.

who makes it?

Tale is made by Samuel Cole. For help or corrections, write to support@tale.fyi. Include the book title and a link to the passage, if relevant.

how are the blurbs written?

The blurbs are written with AI from each book’s title and author. They’re meant to give you a sense of a book, like a bookshop’s staff recommendation cards.

Sam has spot-checked them, but hasn’t read every book. The blurbs can be wrong. Send corrections to support@tale.fyi.
