- You’ll enjoy the ornate, sly storytelling, especially the way Kai Lung keeps postponing his punishment by spinning tales for an increasingly impatient official. The mock-Chinese diction takes a little settling into, but once its dry proverbs and elaborate politeness click, the book becomes wonderfully strange and quietly funny.
