- Half of it is a lonely old man barricading his house against pig-faced things from a ravine, the other half is him watching the sun burn out across millions of years. If you like horror that goes cosmic and dreamlike instead of tidy, this gets under your skin.
- The prose is a genuine slog, faux-archaic and repetitive, so fair warning. But if you push through, you get a dead sun, a last pyramid of humanity, and things like the Watchers sitting motionless in the dark for centuries, images no other book will give you.
