- You’ll probably enjoy Pollyanna if you can tolerate unabashed sweetness: Polly’s “glad game” slowly unsettles stern Aunt Polly and an entire town, while the story keeps asking what kindness can do without pretending hardship is imaginary. It’s sentimental, sometimes creaky, but genuinely warm-hearted.
- You get to see Pollyanna grow into a young woman without losing her stubborn warmth, while Jimmy Bean and Aunt Polly keep the story tied to its earlier heart. It’s gentler and more domestic than the first book, with less surprise but a pleasing interest in how optimism matures.
