- The Doctor reaches the moon and finds talking plants, giant insects, and a lone human presiding over a careful vegetable peace. The strangest book in the series, slow and dreamlike, and it closes on a genuinely melancholy note.
- Doctor Dolittle founds the Swallow Mail, a postal service run entirely by birds, and the letters carry adventures back to his houseboat office. Episodic and warm, with a birds' weather bureau among its inventions; among the gentlest Dolittles.
- You get a wonderfully odd adventure in which Doctor Dolittle learns animals’ languages, travels with a pushmi-pullyu, and treats creatures with more patience than people. The storytelling is warm and playful, though its colonial-era attitudes and language can jar, so you read it as an old book with a very kind heart.
- You settle into a wonderfully odd sea adventure narrated by Tommy Stubbins, where Doctor Dolittle treats animals as serious patients and Polynesia routinely outsmarts the humans. It meanders through encounters and tall tales, but the mix of practical kindness, animal conversation, and old-fashioned strangeness stays genuinely charming.
