- You have to enjoy slow, demanding arguments, but Kant gives moral life a bracing seriousness: the good will matters more than results, and freedom means giving yourself a law you can rationally stand behind. The sections on the moral law and the postulates reward patient rereading.

Kant is famously dense, yet his ideas about autonomy, duty, and treating people as ends keep opening up once you wrestle with them.
- You read it for the strange, bracing account of why a rose can seem beautiful without being useful, and why the sublime makes you feel both small and capable. Kant is dense and methodical, but his thinking about art, nature, and judgment keeps opening doors long after you put it down.
