Katharine A. Carl
1 Buch
- You get an unusually close, observant look at Empress Dowager Cixi through Katharine Carl’s experience painting her portrait, with court rituals, palace rooms, and small human details doing the work. It’s gently paced and shaped by its outsider’s early-20th-century assumptions, but worth your time if you enjoy firsthand travel writing with a real person emerging behind imperial ceremony.
