Lytton Strachey

- Strachey takes four Victorian saints (Florence Nightingale, General Gordon, Cardinal Manning, Dr Arnold) and quietly, elegantly lets the air out of them. If you enjoy watching someone commit polite assassination in beautiful prose, this is very good company.
- Strachey pokes fun at the whole Victorian circus, then somehow ends up moved by Victoria herself, and so do you. Watch him handle her devotion to Albert, dry wit softening into real tenderness.
