Mary Seacole
1 Buch
- You’ll like Mary Seacole’s memoir for its plainspoken nerve and wonderfully practical eye: she meets war, illness, prejudice, and money troubles by figuring out what needs doing next. Her account of running the British Hotel near Balaclava feels especially vivid, full of hard work, shrewd business sense, and surprising warmth.
