- You'll spend most of it wanting to shake Orgon, who's so besotted with his pious houseguest that he ignores everyone, including his sharp-tongued maid Dorine, who steals every scene she's in. It's fast, mean, very funny, and reads in an evening.
- You watch Argan organize his entire household around imaginary illnesses, while doctors flatter his fears and his family tries to stay sane. The jokes are broad, but the play’s suspicion of medical jargon, self-importance, and people who profit from anxiety still lands sharply.
- You watch Harpagon treat his hidden cash as a beloved companion, while his children try to arrange their lives around his greed. The jokes are broad, but the family bitterness underneath gives the play real bite.
