- You get Conan as a cunning, hard-bitten survivor rather than a simple muscleman, thrown through ruined cities, sorcery, and shifting alliances. The stories are pulpy, violent, and sometimes repetitive, but Howard’s fierce, sensory prose makes each escape feel earned.
- Howard writes like he's got a fever, and it's contagious: Solomon Kane stalking through African jungles, Kull brooding on his stolen throne, serpent-men wearing human faces. The prose is pulpy and the attitudes are very 1930s, but nobody makes a sword fight move faster.
