- Bedtime stories of Lightfoot the Deer, Blacky the Crow, and the rest of the Green Forest, each with a bit of true natural history tucked in. Written to be read aloud to a small child, gentle and repetitive on purpose.
- Peter Rabbit, Sammy Jay, and Old Granny Fox get into small scrapes in chapters short enough to read aloud at bedtime, each with a gentle little moral tucked in. Cozy and old-fashioned, better shared with a kid than read alone.
