- Fair warning, the prose creaks a bit and Scott loves a long description, but once the tournament at Ashby kicks off it moves, and Rebecca quietly steals the whole book from the hero. If knights and a sly Robin Hood cameo sound fun, settle in.
- The first few chapters drag, honestly, but once Edward stumbles into the Highlands and falls under Fergus Mac-Ivor's spell you're in a story about a dreamy young man picking the wrong side of a rebellion half by accident, and Scott is kinder about it than you'd expect.
