Oedipus Rex Sophocles, traducido por Francis Storr
You watch Oedipus investigate the plague-stricken Thebes with fierce intelligence and a stubborn faith in truth, even as every answer makes his position more precarious. The play is spare, formal, and emotionally severe, but its pressure builds with remarkable clarity, leaving you thinking about knowledge, responsibility, and what you can bear to learn.
The Merchant of Venice William Shakespeare
The comedy bits are light (Portia testing suitors with riddle caskets), but Shylock's "hath not a Jew eyes" speech will sit with you for days. It's uncomfortable, deliberately or not, and that tension is exactly why it's worth arguing about afterward.
