Ethics Benedictus de Spinoza
You find a severe, strangely liberating book here: Spinoza’s definitions and proofs lead from God or Nature to emotions, desire, and the hard-won freedom of understanding why you act. The geometric format is dry at first, but its account of jealousy, sadness, and steadiness feels remarkably intimate.
Pragmatism William James no ficción
James lectures like he's leaning across the table at you, opening with a squabble about a squirrel circling a tree to show how most philosophical fights dissolve once you ask what difference the answer makes. Dense in spots, but warmer and funnier than philosophy has any right to be.
Principia Ethica G. E. Moore
Fair warning, this is dry analytic philosophy, Moore patiently dismantling every attempt to define "good" in other terms. But if you like careful arguments, it's oddly satisfying, and the last chapter, where friendship and beauty turn out to matter most, is quietly moving.
