Discourses on Livy Niccolò Machiavelli, traducido por Ninian Hill Thomson
You get Machiavelli thinking through how republics preserve liberty, using Rome’s tribunes, public conflict, and political institutions as his working examples. It’s dense and sometimes repetitive rather than easy reading, but rewarding if you enjoy watching a sharp, unsentimental mind test political ideals against history.
The Aeneid Virgil, traducido por John Dryden
You get a hero who keeps moving because duty leaves him little choice, even when it means abandoning Dido and descending into the underworld to face what comes next. The poetry can feel formal and deliberate, but its mix of grandeur, grief, and political unease stays with you.
