Cup of Gold John Steinbeck
You’re glad you read this for its strange, feverish atmosphere, as Henry Morgan crosses the Caribbean toward Panama, pursuing the red-haired La Santa Roja as much as treasure. Steinbeck’s first novel is uneven and more dreamlike than later work, but its romantic obsession has a real pull.
Household Tales Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm, traducido por Margaret Hunt
You’ll like these for their blunt, eerie storytelling, where a forest can feel genuinely dangerous and a talking animal may be wiser than the people around it. Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, and Ashenputtel still have a strange sharpness, though the violence and abrupt endings make this better for a taste of folklore than bedtime comfort.
