- Moll narrates her own crimes and marriages like a shopkeeper doing inventory, and her total lack of shame becomes weirdly endearing. The prose runs on without chapter breaks and can feel like one long confession, but if you like a shrewd, unsentimental survivor, she's good company.
- If you've ever hated an office job, watching Psmith serenely dismantle bank life (calling everyone Comrade, politely stalking his pompous manager Bickersdyke to his own club) is deeply satisfying. Early Wodehouse, so gentler than Jeeves, with a surprising amount of cricket, but the same silliness.
- Ten young Florentines wait out the plague by telling each other stories, and most of them are funnier and filthier than you'd expect from the 1300s, full of scheming friars and wives outwitting dull husbands. Dip in and out; nobody reads all hundred straight through.
