The Georgics Virgil, traducido por John Dryden
Slow reading, sure, but Virgil makes bees feel like a tiny doomed empire and a plague among cattle genuinely heartbreaking, and the Orpheus story tucked into the end catches you off guard. Good for anyone who likes their nature writing shadowed by grief and civil war.
The Monk M. G. Lewis
If you think Gothic novels are all fainting and fog, this one goes places that still feel shocking: Ambrosio is Madrid's most revered preacher, and watching his vanity get worked open by the mysterious Matilda is genuinely unsettling. Lurid, cruel in spots, and weirdly fast-moving for 1796.
