The Cruise of the Alerte E. F. Knight no ficción
You’d enjoy Knight’s account if practical sailing, remote islands, and a mildly quixotic treasure hunt sound better than a neatly plotted adventure. The Alerte’s voyage to the lonely South Atlantic island of Trinidad comes with storms, hard travel, and close observation of the island’s wildlife and landscape, though the pace often ambles.
The Mystery of 31, New Inn R. Austin Freeman
You’ll like watching Dr. Thorndyke turn the odd physical details at 31 New Inn into evidence, with Freeman’s patient, almost laboratory-like reasoning doing the heavy lifting. It’s methodical rather than breathless, so it suits you when a mystery’s pleasure lies in thinking alongside the investigator.
