A Damsel in Distress P. G. Wodehouse
You’ll enjoy the absurdly elegant tangle at Belpher Castle, where George Bevan’s romantic intentions keep colliding with Lord Marshmoreton’s rose garden obsession and the family’s plotting. It’s light, very funny Wodehouse, and pleasantly theatrical, though the romance matters less than the beautifully timed misunderstandings.
Freckles Gene Stratton-Porter
You might enjoy Freckles for its earnest, slightly old-fashioned heart: Freckles, a one-handed Irish orphan guarding the Limberlost, finds dignity in the work and solace in the swamp’s birds, trees, and secret places. It’s sentimental and sometimes preachy, but the natural writing feels genuinely observed.
