Plague of Pythons Frederik Pohl English
Pohl takes possession stories somewhere nastier than demons: ordinary people hijacked mid-life by unseen riders, and Chandler, branded on the forehead for crimes his body committed, has to live with the wreckage. It's short, grim, and blunt about what absolute power does, so skip it if you want comfort.
The Inspector General Nikolai Gogol, tradotto da Thomas Seltzer English
A vain little nobody blows into a corrupt town, gets mistaken for a government inspector, and just rolls with it, borrowing money from every trembling official in sight. You'll read it in an evening, laugh at Khlestakov's shameless lying, then notice the satire still lands on people you know.
Three Men in a Boat Jerome K. Jerome English
You'll be laughing at three useless Victorians failing to open a tin of pineapple on the Thames, and it still lands. The plot barely exists, it's really just J. going off on tangents, but the tangents (Uncle Podger hanging a picture) are the whole point.
