The Circular Staircase Mary Roberts Rinehart English
Rachel Innes is the reason to read this: a dry, unflappable spinster who rents a country house, finds a body, and refuses to be scared off. The mystery creaks pleasantly, but her narration (constantly sparring with her maid Liddy) is what keeps you turning pages.
The Hollow Needle Maurice Leblanc, tradotto da Alexander Teixeira de Mattos English
You watch the sharp young Isidore Beautrelet chase Lupin through French history, clues, and the cliffs of Étretat. It’s an old-fashioned, melodramatic puzzle, but the pleasure is real: Lupin’s charm keeps colliding with Beautrelet’s stubborn intelligence, and every answer opens another door.
