From the Earth to the Moon Jules Verne, traduzido por Ward, Lock & Co. English
Verne's poking fun at Americans here, and it lands: a club of bored Civil War artillerymen decide to fire a cannon at the moon, and Michel Ardan cheerfully volunteers to ride inside. You'll skim some ballistics math, but the deadpan enthusiasm carries you right through.
The Consolation of Philosophy Boethius, traduzido por H. R. James English
You sit with Boethius in prison as Lady Philosophy patiently takes apart his ideas about luck, suffering, and what happiness can survive when everything is taken away. The arguments can feel austere, but the alternating poems and prose make it oddly intimate, especially if you enjoy being challenged rather than comforted.
The Extraordinary Adventures of Arsène Lupin, Gentleman-Burglar Maurice Leblanc, traduzido por George Morehead English
You’ll have fun watching Lupin turn locked rooms, disguises, and police traps into little games of wit, especially when he toys with Inspector Ganimard. The early stories are brisk and episodic, with a pleasantly theatrical, old-fashioned style, so settle in for charm and cleverness rather than psychological depth.
