A Midsummer Night’s Dream William Shakespeare English
You get a play that keeps changing its mind about love, from the quarrelling lovers in the forest to Bottom blundering through his amateur performance. The language is playful and slippery, and Puck gives the whole thing a mischievous sense that human beings are never quite in control.
In the Days of the Comet H. G. Wells English
Strange one, this: half of it is Willie chasing his lost girl with a revolver through a filthy industrial England, all jealousy and coal smoke, then a comet's green haze makes everyone wake up sane. If utopias bore you, skip it, but that furious first half really stings.
