Mr. Mulliner Stories P. G. Wodehouse English
Every story starts with a stranger in the Angler's Rest making the mistake of mentioning something, and Mulliner having a nephew whose life proves a point about it. If you like watching a shy curate or a timid photographer spiral into glorious absurdity, this is happy nonsense done properly.
The Viaduct Murder Ronald A. Knox English
Four golfers find a body under a viaduct and detect it half to death, each theory more ingenious and more wrong. Knox is gently mocking the detective story from inside it; funniest if you already love the genre's rules.
