Golf Stories P. G. Wodehouse English
The Oldest Member corners some poor soul on the clubhouse terrace and off he goes, spinning tales of lovers whose fates hinge entirely on their handicaps. You don't need to play golf, you just need to enjoy watching Wodehouse treat a missed putt like a Greek tragedy.
The Turmoil Booth Tarkington English
Bibbs Sheridan, the frail son who'd rather write poetry than worship his father's roaring factories, is easy to root for, and Tarkington makes you feel that smoke-choked boomtown in your lungs. It moves gently and moralizes a bit, but if you like quiet rebels, this lands.
