The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel Baroness Orczy English
If you already like Sir Percy, this is the fun-size version: short, self-contained rescues where he slips into Paris in some grubby disguise, drawls his way past Chauvelin, and vanishes. Slighter than the novels, and the formula shows, but each little escape still lands.
Twenty Years at Hull House Jane Addams English
Addams writes like someone thinking out loud about why comfortable idealism wasn't enough, and her account of ditching the "snare of preparation" to actually move in among Chicago's immigrant poor still stings a little. Slow and earnest in places, but her honesty about her own mistakes keeps it human.
