Discourses on Livy Niccolò Machiavelli, traduzido por Ninian Hill Thomson English
You get Machiavelli thinking through how republics preserve liberty, using Rome’s tribunes, public conflict, and political institutions as his working examples. It’s dense and sometimes repetitive rather than easy reading, but rewarding if you enjoy watching a sharp, unsentimental mind test political ideals against history.
The Wyvern Mystery J. Sheridan Le Fanu English
If you liked Uncle Silas but want something slower and stranger, this delivers: Alice hidden away at damp, lonely Carwell Grange, and a blind Dutchwoman whose scenes are genuinely frightening. It rambles a bit in the middle, but the dread when it lands is real.
Ukridge Stories P. G. Wodehouse English
You spend time with Stanley Featherstonehaugh Ukridge, a shameless sponger whose “certain little proposition” usually leaves Corky managing the fallout. The stories are breezy, repetitive in a pleasing way, and funniest when Ukridge’s huge confidence collides with other people’s refusal to finance it.
