chriss the girl

Moll Flanders Daniel Defoe
Moll narrates her own crimes and marriages like a shopkeeper doing inventory, and her total lack of shame becomes weirdly endearing. The prose runs on without chapter breaks and can feel like one long confession, but if you like a shrewd, unsentimental survivor, she's good company.
Spoon River Anthology Edgar Lee Masters
You hear the dead of Spoon River speak from their graves, each brief epitaph exposing the grudges, compromises, lusts, and private tenderness their neighbors never saw. The voices contradict one another, so the town slowly becomes a messy human chorus rather than a neat moral lesson.
