- A General History of the Pirates non-fictionYou get a wonderfully scruffy blend of sailors’ gossip, moralizing, and adventure, with Blackbeard staging his terrifying entrance and Anne Bonny and Mary Read refusing the roles assigned to them. It’s episodic and sometimes doubtful, but the odd details make it feel like overhearing history in a dockside tavern.
